Americans often have a misconception that they are the true "natives" of this country. Because of this idea they often look down on recent emigrants whom they believe to be leeches on the nations back. However, this idea is lacking factual background. The same can be said about those who currently claim that their ancestors were the ‘true American settlers'. They themselves having committed even more atrocities than these new migrants. They wiped out native Indian tribes, leeching the gutted and "true" native population. However even the Native Americans came to this continent at one point tens of thousands of years ago across the Bering ice bridge. This shows that no one is truly a native unless you and your ancestors lived in Africa and then, that is only if you live where the first homo sapiens took their first steps.
So what else is there to base differences between residents of the United states? Religion, Race, Gender, Sexual Identity. All that accomplishes is separation which are founding fathers (Who themselves were immigrants) attempted to dissuade. They stated in the declaration of independence that all men are created equal (Despite not following this themselves to the degree) setting up a precedent for this country to grow and shape into an accepting nation
Naturally there will always be differences between humans however the choice to act based on those differences is what really makes a difference. The only true distinction between people that I see now is whether they are stuck in a segregated past or part of an open armed future.
